Handle: Gemstone Mosaic in Sodalite and Italian Goldstone
Sheath: Ray Skin inlaid in hand-carved Leather
Knife: An older, earlier knife of mine, the
Mountain Creature is a hybrid of my Rocky Mountain Camp knife
(blade) and the handle of the Creature tactical rescue knife. The
blade has interesting milling in mirror polished 440C stainless to
reduce the weight, and full filework abounds. The bolsters are low
carbon steel, hand-engraved. The handle is a gemstone mosaic, of ten
pieces of Sodalite gemstone and Italian Goldstone bands. This
is a very difficult handle to make, assemble, match, and properly
finish.
Sheath: The sheath for this knife had to match
and also display the majority of the handle work, so I chose a
half-open design, made to protect the cutting edge and point of the
blade, yet display and retain the knife with open straps of leather.
The leather is dyed medium brown and inlayed with multiple pieces of
blue stingray skin, hand-stitched and lacquered for longevity.
A striking older, early knife of mine that's nice to visit.
