The Personal Experience of a Knife Purchase

I'm Jay Fisher, and this is a single knife maker's website, so the business I do is very personal and individual. Large knife companies, knife boutique shops, semi-production knife manufacturers, dealers, resellers, or volume websites that deal with more than one maker or more than one worker will have a catalogue type of web order and purchase experience. I do not have a running catalog with a price list; this is not a typical catalogue website. Other than the standard tactical knives, I've never copied existing knives and repeated the exact same knife with the exact same materials, finish, embellishment, or accessories. Unless it's a tactical combat knife, it is unique.

There are three ways you can acquire a finished knife ready for immediate delivery.

  1. You can purchase a finished knife from my Knives for Sale page
  2. You can purchase a finished knife from my Tactical Knives for Sale page
  3. You can purchase a finished knife from my Chef's Knives for Sale page.

All three pages have knives that are currently available for immediate purchase. For every custom knife I make, I try to make one knife that is my own creative project, a knife for my inventory, and the knives on these three pages are those inventory knives. On those individual knife pages is the only place on this website where you will see prices listed. Each knife for sale has all the specifications, description, details, inspiration, features and use of the knife, blade, handle, components, fittings and accessories (sheath or stand) listed, along with multiple high detail photographs from every angle of the knife. Each individual "For Sale" page also may have links to help you understand fittings, components and related accessories and wear options.

I don't typically have a large amount of inventory knives available on these pages as most of them move fairly quickly. More details are available on my Purchasing a Finished Knife page, and my Knife Sales Policy page.

You can custom order a knife.

A client may look through the many pages of this site and see a pattern, style, or knife that interests him and he places a custom order. Useful resources for knife illustration of my work are my Patterns page, listing over 500 different patterns I make with linked photographs to finished knives, and the Featured Knife pages which have links to hundreds of individual knife pages that have multiple photos and technical descriptions. He may wish to simply email me to start the custom knife conversation. Once we agree on a project, he submits a standard $200.00 US deposit to get in the queue, and I start the work. When the knife is finished, he pays the balance and shipping, and his knife is delivered. The delivery time may be in the order of many months, perhaps years, which is typical for well-known makers. Here are more details on Purchasing a Custom Ordered Knife page and my Knife Sales Policy page.

You can pre-order a knife that is in the works.

I love to make knives of all types, and I've created a page where you can see my New Knives in Production, Available for Pre-order.. The page shows the knife pattern, materials, and reveals its stage of completion. If you order a Pre-order knife, you usually don't have to wait as long in the queue as a new custom order built from scratch.

You may find one of my knives somewhere on the internet.

You may be able to find one of my knives for resale somewhere on the internet. This is called the "Secondary Market." While not many of my knives have been resold over the course of my career, I do see them offered from time to time from dealers and individuals.

Please note that typically, a knife resold sells for more than it was originally ordered for from the maker; at least mine due to because of their investment value and appreciation.

This is why it's a good idea to purchase a knife directly from the knifemaker when possible. Here's an example of what can happen to a re-sold knife.

A detailed internet search may reveal sources of available knives.
