"Vindicator" with Lapis Lazuli Gemstone handle |
The Trailhead was designed as a knife specifically for hiking and trail, with a tough, stout, and durable hollow ground mirror finished and hot blued O1 high carbon tungsten-vanadium tool steel tanto-shaped blade. The blade has a very stout and squared-off point with a short top swage that reduces the point profile while preserving a very long measure of spine to impart great strength to the blade. This Trailhead has an extra length blade and the blade is hollow ground and razor sharp with a double bevel angle, with noticeable thumb rise for control. The blade is fully fileworked with a very aggressive, deep, and punchy filework pattern that not only helps in grip security, but adds unique handmade beauty. The handle shape is fairly straightforward, with a forefinger groove for control, a rounded rear bolster quillon and the deep choil cut at the ricasso gives a well-defined location for the edge termination. This knife is bolstered in polished 304 high nickel, high chromium austenitic stainless steel with 12 alternating size 304 stainless steel pins that echo the decorative milling pattern in the blade. The pins secure dovetailed and bedded Gabon Ebony hardwood handle scales, which are tough, smooth, and naturally beautiful.
The sheath for this knife follows the angular and punchy design motif, and is hand-carved in heavy leather shoulder, dyed black and inlaid with Prairie Rattlesnake Snake skin panels accentuating the snake's diamond pattern. The sheath is accented with small triangular-shaped tooling, hand-stitched with polyester sinew, lacquered, and sealed.
A unique and striking knife ready for the trail.
