Blade: O-1 High Carbon Tungsten-Vanadium
Tool Steel, Hardened and Tempered to Rockwell C60, Mirror
Finished and Hot Blued
Fittings/Bolsters: O-1 Tool Steel, mirror polished, hand
engraved by Jay Fisher, bright finish
Handle: Moss Agate Gemstone
Sheath: Hand-Tooled 9-10 oz. Leather Shoulder, Inlaid with
Prairie Rattlesnake Skin, cross draw design
Knife: "Wasat" is named for a star in
the constellation Gemini, and this one is a very fine lightly trailing point knife,
fully embellished and finely finished. The first thing you
notice (which pictures do not demonstrate) is the bright
mirror-finished jet black blade. I've used O-1, one of my
favorite knife steels; it's a high tungsten-vanadium tool
steel that oil hardens and takes a rich black finish when
professionally hot blued. The blade is ground from 1/8"
stock, for a thin sharp geometry that works well with the
light trailing point. The blade is full tang, with a fully
tapered tang and is accented with very nice vine filework,
from tip to choil. The bolsters are made of O-1 also, for
tough, beautiful longevity, and they're dovetailed to hold a
very fine pair of highly polished and very hard moss agate
handle scales,
that have crystal pockets and ranges of gray, black, and
translucency. I echoed the staccato pattern of the gemstone
on the bolster engraving to bring the piece together. This
is a unique piece of gem, and I haven't seen any more of it
available, so this might be the only knife to have it!
Sheath: The
sheath is a left side cross draw, for comfort when sitting
the sheath rotates slightly. The sheath front and back are
inlaid with Prairie Rattlesnake skin, and the sheath is made
of leather shoulder hand-stitched with polyester sinew, the
toughest binder on the market, and lacquered and sealed.
