Knife: "Tien" is the Vietnamese name for
spirit or angel. This is a very special knife. It was designed by
and made in collaboration with Etienne Beauchamp, my grandson. Another reason he settled on this
name is because it's also short for Etienne in our western language.
This is his first collaborative knife we've made together, and we
did a great job on it. The blade design is a slender tanto style
with plenty of thick spine to support the hollow ground blade. The
forward edge has a gentle curve and so does the main edge, with a
bit of recurve to offer a knife with a wickedly sharp cutting edge.
The tip of the blade has plenty of thickness for heavy use, and we
didn't include a swage, so the spine is extra strong. This is a
superior knife in design, materials, and durability that makes it
useable for field, combat, rescue, and survival use. The blade is
super corrosion resistant and tough 440C high chromium stainless
steel, the same fine tool steel used on most of my tactical combat
and professional service duty knives, chosen for its superb
reputation. This is the same tool steel used on corrosion resistant
ball bearings, shear blades, and high pressure valve seats in
industry. This is a great steel. The long blade is well-reinforced
by a substantial ricasso. At the butt of the handle is a rear finger
ring and a talon (or persuader) used as a defensive adjunct and a
non-lethal addition to the tactical blade. This unique design
(ring and talon) allows the knife to be very comfortable and useful
in reverse grip, with the thumb laid across the talon and supported
by the contoured and rounded finger ring. The tang of the blade is
fully tapered for a great balance, and the balance point is exactly
at the front quillon. The knife is bolstered with 304 high nickel,
high chromium austenitic stainless steel, the same great, tough, and
zero-care stainless steel used in corrosion resistant nuts, bolts
and fasteners. It is extremely tough. The bolsters are dovetailed to
bed a pair of hard and durable G10 handle scales. These scales are
made of a fiberglass and industrial epoxy composite, with laminate
layers in blue and black. The sealed and bedded handle is secured
with the addition of four 304 stainless steel pins. This is a
powerful, sleek, and strong tactical knife, ready for any duty,
chore, or service, made with the finest materials we are known for.
Sheath: We added one of our extremely
well-made, locking,
waterproof tactical sheaths for this knife, the best
tactical combat knife sheath
style made on earth. The sheath is made of double-thickness kydex that is (.125") thick for strength,
durability, stability, and longevity, and is then hot-formed
over a 5052H32 corrosion resistant, high strength aluminum alloy welt
frame, secured with stainless steel Chicago screws and
waterproof cement. All exposed components are treated for a
non-glare, muted finish. The sheath has all stainless steel locking
components in 302, 304, and 316 austenitic stainless steel for
low-care, high corrosion resistance, and durability while positively
locking the knife in the sheath, even when worn upside down. The machine screws and
reinforcements are also stainless steel. 1.75" wide belt loops are
die-formed in high strength aluminum, and are reversible for
versatile wear in any position, while being able to be located
in several positions along the welts for a huge variety of wear
options. There is a reason this type of sheath is our most popular,
and why our military clients insist on the "bulletproof" design and
construction.
Accessories: This knife design and construction
will accommodate our entire accessory package if required, the belt
loop extenders and accessories, and the HULA tactical lamp. We will
be happy to add these if required (at additional charge).
This is Etienne's and my first collaborative knife for sale, and
from the interest and dedication of this fine young man, it will be
a standard bearer for many fine knives to come. As a grandfather,
I'm honored that our young men have an interest and passion for
building a fine handmade work of art to such a high standard. This
knife is super tough, strong, and durable, and will quite literally
last for generations.
